Albany
Albany is a city one square mile in size. It is located at the northrn tip of Alameda County, and lies between Berkeley and El Cerrito. Albany is just fifteen minuttes from Oakland and (depending on traffic) twenty or thirty minutes from San Francisco.

The area that is Albany was originally part of Luis Peralta's Spanish land grant and cattle ranch. After the discovery of gold in 1848, miners, shopkeepers and squatters began arriving. In ht late 1800's there were gun powder plants built on the waterfront, but after several explosions these plants were dismantled. After the 1906 earthquake many San Franciscans moved across the bay.
